PUB

The FBI ain't takin' no shit
from the scoundrels at PUB:
"You've been cheatin' & stealin'
& raisin' fee after fee."

D.A. Saenz is pointing his finger
cause he knows somethin's wrong.
And he ain't interested
in Bruciak's same ol' song.

"Soupy" Saenz & "Goofy" Garcia
are slitherin' into the tall grass.
They're shakin' & tremblin'
cause Montoya's after their ass.

The Brownsville Herald wants to know
who snuck away with the one million,
but all the board members can do
is offer excuses by the billion.

Bruciak, Saenz & Garcia
are pocketing our cash.
They have lost touch with reality.
Have they been smokin' too much hash?

Everybody recognizes
it's a corrupt institution.
After the Tenaska fiasco,
PUB owes us restitution.

Bruciak serves the haves
and we're the have-nots.
On a hot summer day
a dead man rots.

We're sick & tired
of being whipped like dogs.
You can rule from your pigsty
but don't treat us like hogs.

It's time for the commission
to put PUB in its place.
But you can't make somethin' pretty
that's got an ugly face.

We must clean house
and run these rats out of town.
We're done with the circus
and Bruciak the clown.

To the treacherous trio,
PUB belongs to us.
We've paid for your tickets.
Now get on the next bus.

Will things ever change
at PUB?
We can still protest.
It's up to you & me.

DOC SCULLY WILL PLAY BLUES AGAIN

RESTAURANT OWNER: "Good afternoon, Mr. McHale. We wanted to let you know that this evening we will have another artist. Your style is unique and confrontational, which is good to have, but the clientele that we have slowly forming may not be as appreciative as we are. As business owners, we have to cater to the public with the type of music we play as we do with food and drinks. I think we all agree that people have been becoming more and more sensitive regarding people's opinion, but since we are just starting, we'd rather play it safe for now. I personally didn't hear any religious comments, but a guest informed us of that there were several anti-God lyrics. We are just trying to create a more comfortable place for everyone."

(EDITOR'S NOTE: Not everyone shares the Doc Scully Blues Band's vision. As the singer for this group of iconoclastic troubadours, I sometimes enter a trance-like state when mota, pastillas y birongas induce a transcendent euphoria. I begin to sing in tongues. I can't remember insulting God or Trump or anyone's mother that particular evening when my stint with the restaurant came to an end, but it was brought to my attention later that a customer who had ordered a basket of fries and a cold beer--a bill that totaled less than ten dollars--was the arbiter who doomed my act at the establishment. It isn't the first time that others haven't shared my vision. Ben Neece, my old friend and personal lawyer, threatened to kick me off his stage at the Spanish Moon if I didn't bowdlerize my lyrics. A wife divorced me because she didn't share my appreciation for a novel I had written. Past BISD Superintendent Dr. Esperanza Zendejas expressed categorically that I faced termination with the school district if I continued along the fictional path that I was chopping through the brush with my machete. And, of course, Facebook constantly finds faults in my reporting and I'm sentenced to silence for a period of time. But, in the end, there have been victories. I have emerged on the winning side in campaigning for candidates and arguing issues on numerous occasions. The great writers of the world seldom have my everyday experience. I walk into The Library or the Vermillion or Mi Pueblito or any number of bars and establishments and inevitably I'll encounter an individual who tells me how much he or she enjoys my writing. I can handle the setbacks. They only make the triumphs that more savory. And then it's on to the next challenge. On the positive side, there is no dearth of places that would proudly feature the Doc Scully Blues Band although the proprietor might add, "Can you tone it down just a little bit, Jerry. There are children in the audience.")

GOD PUNISHES US FOR TRUMP'S SELF-DEIFICATIOM

When the Pharaoh defied Moses,
God pummeled Egypt with plague after plague,
finally culminating in His killing
of each household's eldest son.
Our perverted president has defied God
with his impertinence.
He thought Trump Tower would reach heaven,
but in the end it proved another Tower of Babel.
God, however, was much kinder
to the Babylonians than he has been with us.
He only confused them with different languages.
As a result of Trump's arrogance,
God has thus far collected 82,000 American lives.
And as long as Trump keeps bragging
that he is the best,
God will continue to portray
this unrepentant sinner as the worst.

FUCK ME, GODDAMMIT!

"When you are an adulterer and a puto, it is only fair that the gods give you a taste of your own medicine when they sentence you to an adulteress and a puta, but when I met Esther, I was hoping for one last chance at redemption," said Estanislao Contreras over beers at the Palm Lounge with blogger Juan Montoya.

"Even though we deserve a whipping for our sins, it doesn't make the punishment any less painful. Mary, my wife before Esther, was both a virgin and a Christian. Only her family mattered to her. When I left this beautiful and faithful woman, who through time became quite adroit under the sheets, for Esther, the gods condemned me to hard labor for not appreciating the gift they had bestowed upon me."

Contreras, the controversial poet of Chicano Fuck Songs, gulped a beer before continuing with his soliloquy as he picked through the pieces of his dysfunctional marriage.

"I have asked only one thing of her: Fuck me! She doesn't have to cook for me. She doesn't have to wash for me. She doesn't have to clean for me. I'm not a macho who expects her to wait on me hand-and-foot. Just fuck me! But she can't do it. She can't understand that dedicating ten minutes to me and she will have me eating out of her hand after I have eaten my fill of her pussy and left a little whipped cream for dessert.

"Women are shocked when they discover their men have looked for scraps at others' back doors. They treat us like dogs and we become dogs.

"'Fuck me, goddammit!' I beg her. 'Fuck me, goddammit!'

"But she won't do it. She looks at me with scorn. I hate her. When she fucks me, I can't tell if I have a person or a cadaver under me.

"As my frustration has grown and my penis hasn't, I dredge up a story that adds combustibles to the conflagration.

"'After a guy had fucked you once, what would happen the second time he was with you?'

"'When he picked me up, we would fuck. When we came back to his place after dinner and dancing, we would fuck. In the middle of the night we would fuck and in the morning before he took me home we would fuck.'

"For the five years between marriages she described herself as out-of-control. She would combine ecstasy and alcohol and screw some cat she had met three hours earlier in the parking lot of a club. For me, however, there have been few ecstatic out-of-control moments. Those have been saved for her new lovers when she has chosen the joys of adultery over the woes of matrimony.

"'Fuck me, goddammit!' I beg her. "Fuck me, you goddamn cunt!'

But she won't.

PORTUGAL

I will not be posting for the next two weeks. Why?

I'm off to Portugal today. It is a last minute change. Annie Gunn, the girl of sun and song, invited me to accompany her on a two-week excursion through Serbia, Montenegro, Albania and Macedonia. She is not the traditional tourist who visits England, France, Italy and Spain. She wants to lose herself in a sea of Slavic faces.

I thought about going along for the ride because I need a break from Brownsville, but I'm almost seventy and she's in her late twenties. I enjoy taking her to La Pampa for dinner and drinks, but I don't have the energy to keep pace with her over a fourteen-day marathon. Her libido surpasses a man's. She imagines that she is a slab of concrete and she expects the performance of a jackhammer, oftentimes insisting on morning, afternoon and evening poundings.

I can't hit a fastball anymore. In fact, I can hardly swing a bat. She appreciates me enough that she will occasionally lob me a slow-pitch softball and I can drive a liner into the alley, but I'm simply not in her league. I find release in women who experience an orgasm with a peck on the cheek. Sex is a young person's game.

Instead, I'm flying to Lisbon to meet Estanislao Contreras, the infamous author of Chicano Fuck Songs. He is writing his Hispanic manifesto: The Tomato Picker. It's a satire about all the Mexican-American politicians who believe working in the fields during their youths qualifies them to be public figures.

"While my buddies were leaving school in the late spring and not returning until the autumn when classes had already started, I was playing my guitar and hanging out at the Island," remembered Estanislao.

"I was blacker than they were at the end of summer, but it didn't come at the expense of an aching back. My dad had a tendajo and my mother worked at a school cafeteria. We didn't have all the finer things in life, but besides mowing a few white people's lawns, I hardly broke a sweat.

"As a result, I never became a hypocrite. These politicians we have now have forgotten their roots. It was one thing working for gringo masters back then, but it's pretty sad when they continue to work for gringo masters today. Of course, they are well-compensated for selling their souls."

Be that as it may since my amigo is an iconoclast, some might say it's a sad statement when I would rather spend time with an old buddy instead of  a young thing. But if you have the money, there are many attractive and inexpensive Brazilian prostitutes whom Estanislao claims only charge $50 and they're never in a hurry. And my bro adds that it's a great way to practice Portuguese.

Estanislao is renting a small apartment off Avenida da Liberdade near Restauradores Square. He has been there a month and he claims that Lisbon is an easy city to learn and the public transportation is excellent.

The culture, the history, the architecture and the cuisine are second to none he insists. He says he has already become a regular at a couple of bars in the Alfama District where the best Fado singers perform.

I plan to spend four of five days with him, then I'm going to take a two-hour train ride to Coimbra, the country's ancient capital and most famous internationally for its university. Coimbra rises on the banks of the Mondego River that empties lazily twenty-five miles later, in the Atlantic at Figueira da Foz, a hot spot that is more locally oriented although it is quite popular with the English.

Estanislao counseled me that I can buy an inexpensive guitar over lugging one across the pond. He says that I won't have any problems finding a venue because the Portuguese love to listen to English. I expect to cruise between Coimbra and Figueira for three or four days.

I will finish my trip in Porto after another two-hour train trip, this time from Coimbra. Many foreigners who aren't attracted to the southern beaches of the Algarve argue vociferously that Porto is their favorite place in Portugal. Whether it's taking a cruise up the Douro River and visiting the wine country or enjoying the night life in one of those cities that never sleeps, it's a happening ambience.

I have studied Portuguese for years and have interesting conversations with myself by merely substituting a few Portuguese words for Spanish words. I listen to bossa nova all the time, so I have this delusion that with minimal effort I could defend myself in Portuguese.

I have thought that I might want to be an ex-pat in Portugal. But I have one unconquerable obstacle: I have a fourteen-year-old son who needs his daddy. And his daddy needs him. There are many who call me a "culero," but I'm also "culeco." As it is, I'm going to miss his first two football games as a freshman at Veterans, but I discovered a deal that I couldn't pass.

As I mentioned in the introduction, I will be off-line during my travels. I will take a notebook and a pen that glides across paper like a skater on ice and explore my own literary creativity. When I return after Labor Day, I should be ready to take my place in the vanguard of the powerless rising against the excesses of the powerful.

Bon voyage.

DAT DUDE DONE GOTS DEM BIBLICAL BLUES

I was a lonely man
until I met Eve.
I was a lonely man
until I met Eve.
I took a bite of her apple
and now I believe.

The clouds are a-gatherin'
and there's gonna be a flood.
The clouds are a-gatherin'
and there's gonna be a flood.
When the waters recede
there'll be nothin' left but a pool of blood.

The walls of Jericho
will come tumblin' down.
The walls of Jericho
will come tumblin' down.
When they clear the rubble,
they'll put me six-feet underground.

One day the earth will open
and we'll all disappear.
One day the earth will open
and we'll all disappear.
But I've put my faith in the Lord
and I have no fear.

I read the Bible
almost every night.
I read the Bible
almost every night.
I will go quietly
'cause I've seen the light.

I'M READING POEMS IN SPANISH

I'm reading poems in Spanish
and thinking about songs in English.
I will never finish the poems.
Will I ever begin the songs?

FRESH HYDRO DOES THE TRICK

How can anyone look at himself or herself in the mirror and support a reptile like Trump? I won't accept "the lesser of two evils" as a response because he is pure evil.

The man is corrupt to the core. He is a cancer. He is a creep.

"I can shoot anyone I want on Fifth Avenue and nobody will prosecute me." We'll see if his bullshit flies with the House.

"I can grab a woman by the pussy and she loves it." I'm not so sure suburban women will agree with him come the election next year.

The man is a monster. He has forfeited the right to call himself a human being. There is nothing worse than a person who thinks he knows everything but knows nothing.

The pervert is going wacko because his days as a sexual predator are over. Not even Melanie will whack him off. She doesn't want to sleep in the same bedroom with this ape.

Remember his famous quote to Fox's Megyn Kelly: "You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes. Blood coming out of her whatever."

In the near future inside the Oval Office right before our very eyes we will witness Trump's not very "happy ending" as the request goes. Instead, sperm will pour out of his mouth, nose and ears.

It won't be a pleasant sight, but we are already observing a sight that isn't very pretty.

I WANT A BIG DICK

Who says that all St. Joe girls want to be nuns? Four graduates from many years ago gathered for pizza with extra salami at Gio's when Yolanda suddenly shocked her companions when she spat, "I want a big dick!"

Her former classmates--Rosa, Dalila and Melinda, all in their mid-forties--looked at each other dumbfounded as if they had been struck by lightning. Their hair literally stood on end when Yolanda burst a second time, "I want a big dick!"

There was both anger and frustration in her voice.

Her three friends took sips from their glasses of wine before Rosa summoned the courage to break the ice by asking, "Will a little dick do?"

The quartet tittered nervously. All of them were single mothers with children in high school and college. They had come from privileged backgrounds and were fortunate to have professional ex-spouses who were meeting their obligations to their offspring both financially and emotionally.

None of the four were in relationships. Unlike men with their over-powering sexual drives which require reaching out to the opposite sex in order to satisfy their bestial instincts, these women were not usurped with relentless libidos. They still possessed clear minds. None had had sex in several years. They preferred their solitary existences to sorry relationships.

Yolanda, however, had reached the end of her rope as she stared at herself in the mirror every morning and couldn't escape the hard reality of wrinkles fiercely invading her face from several fronts. She was on the brink of menopause when, in her own estimation, she would be reduced to a hollow shell.

"I was a virgin when I married," she lamented. "That was the biggest mistake of my life. I don't want my experiences to be limited to one man."

"It's been a while, but during my college years I had a series of lovers," offered Dalila. "I can't say that any of them left much of an impression. If I never have sex again, I couldn't care less. I don't miss it now, so I don't know why I would miss it in the future.

"I have no urge and I'm content living alone with my energies focused on my kids," she continued. "Men are too shallow and they are not worth the effort with all their needs. Infants are less demanding."

"But you had men," insisted Yolanda. "I don't want to be condemned to just one man. It's not fair. He was such a loser with all his infidelities and infecting me with STDs. I deserve justice and I want a new dick in me. I don't give a damn if it's big, small or average. I want another dick in me before I'm reduced to an old maid."

Melinda had remained quiet. She had been married twice. In her last marriage her husband had unexpectedly wined and dined her on their anniversary when he suddenly informed her at the end of the festive night that he was leaving her for a younger woman.

"That was the last straw," she said as she sadly shook her head. "First and foremost, sex is highly overrated. I've known a few gals who were as promiscuous as men, but the majority of my friends and acquaintances couldn't give a damn if they ever had sex again.

"Several years ago I had tumors in my breasts and the doctor counseled that I might I have to undergo a mastectomy. Everyone was wringing their hands over my cruel fate, but I told them to quit feeling sorry for me because I couldn't give a damn if they lopped off my tits or not. For the record, the tumors were benign."

The pizza arrived. Each took a slice except Yolanda. She refilled her glass and swirled the contents. Her furrowed brow indicated that she was seriously weighing her friends' commentary. She heaved and then sighed, "I don't care. I want a big dick in me."

"To a big dick!" toasted Las Tres Amigas.

MOTHER'S DAY!!!

Today is Easter Sunday. I fixed bacon and eggs for Claudia and myself. We were going to sit on the back patio, but the morning sun was in a ...
